Here Come the Excuses

Apparently the Texas Longhorns didn’t lose to Ohio State Saturday night because the Buckeyes were a better team. No, according to Longhorns head coach Mack Brown they lost because the new clock rule didn’t give Texas enough time to win the game.

"They scored with six minutes left and the game was over before we had a chance to do anything," Brown said. "I really hope whoever made these changes will go back and look them over."

What happened to the confident and cocky head coach that has begun every sentence he’s spoken since early January with, “Well, since we’ve won the national championship…”? It looks like Mack Brown is quickly reverting back to his old ways.

He was out coached Saturday night and now is officially back in the excuse making business.

"One of the great things about college football is a team's ability to come back," Brown said. "Now that's limited. Our game was 22 minutes shorter. That's a little under 10 percent of our game. That's not fair to our fans. We worry about them sitting there?"

Brown said, at worst, the old rules should be in place for the last two or five minutes of each game.

Everyone in America knows that allowing 22 extra minutes to that game Saturday night would have only made the margin of loss worse for Texas. The Longhorns were out matched and it had nothing to do with the clock.
