Moyer Pitches 500th Game

The Seattle Mariners completed a three game sweep of the San Francisco Giants with a 5-1 win on Sunday to stay within five games of first place Oakland but the story of the game was 43-year-old Mariners pitcher Jamie Moyer.

Going 8 full innings giving up six hits and one run Moyer became only the 44th pitcher in history (and only the 12th lefty) to make 500 starts. With only an 85 mph fastball he will have the fewest complete games of those 44 with only 29; Tom Glavine is next at 55, fewest shutouts with 9; Bobby Mathews is next with 20 and the fewest wins with 208; Rick Reuschel is next at 214*. You can truly say that no other MLB pitcher has done so much with so little.

The Mariners will continue their tour of the NL West beginning on Tuesday when they travel to the Dodgers and the Padres for back-to-back three game series then will begin a three game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks a week from Tuesday.
