Sic Em

The Baylor Bears have never beaten the Oklahoma Sooners in football, but that almost changed Saturday night as the defending Big 12 Champs found themselves hanging on for dear life in double overtime Saturday night in Norman, OK.

Rhett Bomar threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Juaquin Iglesias in that second overtime to give Oklahoma a 37-30 win. This was a different Sooner team than from weeks before. In my opinion this is a game the Sooners would have lost 4 or 5 weeks ago. OU had to overcome a lot in order to secure this victory and the Sooners freshmen took more baby steps on their way to replacing the superstars who played before them.

The Bears came from 11 points down to pull within two on a 55-yard touchdown pass from Bell to Dominique Zeigler with 1:17 left. Bell then scrambled for the 2-point conversion to tie it.

With Adrian Peterson out with a sprained ankle, backup Kejuan Jones suspended, Donta Hickson out with an injury the Sooners started fourth string running back Jacob Gutierrez who had 173 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries.

Forget the fact that this was Baylor! The Sooners aren’t playing for championships this season, and this is the kind of victory that gives a young team identity and character. They showed mental, overcoming more bad calls, and physical, Gutierrez and Bomar were obviously hurting in the second half, toughness.

The Sooners are above .500 for the first time this season and at 4-3 are two games away from being bowl eligible.

My Player of The Game: Jacob Gutierrez, RB 30 Rush, 173 yds 2 TDs
